Temporal integration of partial loudness of helicopter-like sounds

چکیده

When developing new vehicles that are to be operated in existing background noise, such as electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs) cities, a sound design goal should minimize the loudness given noise. Rotorcraft sounds characterised by their pulses, choice of rotor size number allows vary temporal characteristics. We asked participants compare pulse trains with durations 1, 2, 5, 10 20 ms rate Hz two-interval, two-alternatives forced task 1-up/1-down procedure. Street noise was presented simultaneously trains, had same root-mean-square (RMS) level fixed reference train about 65 dB SPL. First results indicate short duration need considerably less RMS result long duration, i.e. partial shorter pulses is higher at equivalent pressure level.

Temporal integration of loudness, loudness discrimination, and the form of the loudness function.

Temporal integration for loudness of 5-kHz tones was measured as a function of level between 2 and 60 dB SL. Absolute thresholds and levels required to produce equal loudness were measured for 2-, 10-, 50-, and 250-ms tones using adaptive, two-interval, two-alternative forced-choice procedures. The procedure for loudness balances was new and employed ten interleaved tracks to obtain concurrent ...

Overall loudness of short time-varying sounds

When predicting the overall loudness of time-varying sounds, it is necessary to use a function which calculates an overall value based on instantaneous loudness. Although N5 and LL(P) correlate for many sounds, their concepts are rather different. N5 is the loudness which is exceeded in five percent of the time, thus it is an ordinal value. LL(P) is the energetic mean of all instantaneous loudn...

Spectro-Temporal Weighting of Loudness

Real-world sounds like speech or traffic noise typically exhibit spectro-temporal variability because the energy in different spectral regions evolves differently as a sound unfolds in time. However, it is currently not well understood how the energy in different spectral and temporal portions contributes to loudness. This study investigated how listeners weight different temporal and spectral ...

End level bias on direct loudness ratings of increasing sounds.

Three experiments on loudness of sounds with linearly increasing levels were performed: global loudness was measured using direct ratings, loudness change was measured using direct and indirect estimations. Results revealed differences between direct and indirect estimations of loudness change, indicating that the underlying perceptual phenomena are not the same. The effect of ramp size is smal...

Loudness of pink noise and stationary technical sounds

Although their basic concept is similar, the current standards for the calculation of loudness, ANSI S3.4-2007 and DIN 45631 (1991), produce significantly different results for many kinds of sounds. While their values for pure tones can be explained by the equal loudness contours of their times, they also show huge discrepancies for broadband sounds. For this reason, extended psychoacoustic exp...
